Hi everyone!!!
I got a one question.
My customer have got one disk in rs/6000 box
this disk name is hdisk1.
he wants to chage disk number to hdisk0
so how can i changing disk number in this situation
i waiting for your reply
sorry for bed english
thanks & regards

risc6k,

In my opinion, you can't change it from hdisk1 to hdisk0 unless you shutdown rs/6000 and change the disk slot. Because the number is determined by disk slot.

HI,

YOu can remove the hdisk0 phisically,"rmdev -dl hdisk0" assuming it's not a boot disk, then plug in the new disk and reboot.

The system will recognise the new disk as hdisk0,assuming no other disks are present.

If there are severall disks - it goes by slot number. "Long live king Moshiach !"

I suggest you install a second disk. First because mirroring is good, second it will let you have a hdisk0 easily. Slot number does determine which disk gets what number, but I think it starts numbering at the lowest available number when you do cfgmgr.

Slot number does not always determine disk number. It can, but not always.

Adapter placement will affect disk numbers.

The quickest way (and safest way) to rename hdisk numbers is to do as posted - rmdev -dl hdisk#.

However, if it is a boot disk, you need to fix the bootlist and run a bosboot and savebase to reflect the changes BEFORE booting.

However, if this is the only hdisk in the system, you won't be able to delete it.

Bill.
