Hello all-

I am wanting to install Linux on my 100MHz Pentium I based system with a 852MB hard drive (I have about 300MB of free space on the partition I'm wanitng to instal Linux on) does anyone know how loarge the complete Linux 2.2.0 OS is? or how big the Linux download is? I'm really wanting to set it up on my computer, but I' don't really know if I can.
Well, it depends what distribution you use.

I'm using RedHat 5.2, but for experimental purposes I have recently installed SuSE 6.0 on a spare 200Mb hard drive. This was required a lot of effort though, and an installation on expert mode.

I have no experience with the other distros so I can't advise you but out of those two I recommend RedHat. You'll need to split your partition using fips, and then to avoid complication you might as well install the whole lot on one partition. If you're running Windows, you can get Linux to share its swap file : its there in the manuals.

I strongly advise you to get a Linux CD from somewhere rather than downloading it - it'd take a while.

Finally, do not be put off by the scariness of installing it. The sense of achievement you get afterwards is well worth it!
Thanks for the info Nebula; I'll check that out.
