I have a client running XP at home and she is aggravated by the fact that whenever she goes into 'Documents and Settings' her old hotmail login screen appears. She has no reason for this and since she accesses 'D and S' alot, she wants to know how to stop that.

Any ideas??

Maybe she could login once and see if it just goes away after that.

Another possible thing to try is typing Control Userpasswords2 in the Start Run box. In the resulting window click on Advanced then Manage Passwords. Here you may remove your logon information.

Some general things to try.

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Windows.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows itself by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

Could you give a little more detail on the problem? The way I understand it, if she browses to C:\Documents and Settings and opens it, Internet Explorer opens and she is redirected to the Hotmail site? Does she drill down to the folder for her user, or as soon as she opens the Documents and Settings folder?

I haven't seen it myself, but she says that whenever she access documents and settings folder, which is often, the hotmail login screen appears......as if cued.

I can probably go by her house tonight and check it out, but I posted this here, because I've not had that happen before........and of course, there is a wealth of knowledge here, too!

Didn't get a chance to check it out yet, but will try as earliest convenience. I will let you all know what happens.
