I have a LAN with windows 2000 server running MDAEMON mail server for LAN purpose only. All clients are windows 2000 prof and they type 3000 is the port for webmail for Mdaemon mail server) to access the web mail of this MDAEMON mail server.

Ive heard that i can do something with "host header" file to change the webmail address from to or something like that.
Has anybdy got any idea?

Host headers are easy to set up in IIS.

From within the properties of the web site, just click the Advanced button near the IP address.

Configure your desired port and the friendly name you want to use. Then you just need to add that name into your DNS and point it to the appropriate IP address.

I hope you find this post helpful. Please let me know if it was.

markdmac, as u said that is easy to set in IIS. but what about if i hav a mail server installed. i.e. client access by typing where 3000 is port add of mail server.

Is there anyway that instead of i can give some easy name.

Does the mailserver use IIS for its webmail or have its own built-in webserver??

it has its own built-in webserver.

In that case tips about host headers with IIS are not going to help you. Its application specific. As I said before, I think this is something you'll get a better answer about from the MDAEMON forum at:

Agreed, if you are not using the tools built into Win2K you need to switch forums.
