Hi, can anyone help me get home drives working, ive set up all the profiles in active directory, and roaming profiles working without problems, but i cannot get the home drive to show on client machine, even when its setup correctly, i know the share has the appropriate rights, as the user can browse to that dir using network neighbourhood, but i cannot get the home dir mappable to a drive when user logs in. Currently i have home drive mapped to drive z. Can anyone throw any ideas as to why it does not work

When I create home folders for my users I goto profile tab for the user I want to create the share for and under home share I type \\servername\users\%username% . You will need to create a share that everyone can see like users on your server. Then when your users logs in, the server will create a share for on the server using there login name. He or she will be the only one that can access the folder i.e.\\servername\users\bob

You can asign any drive letter you want as well. Also check your logs on the client machine. It will give you clues as to whats going on

i have done this already, and checked event management, the home dir exists in the profile, but when the user logs in he does not get one, very baffled. As i said earlier, the directory is accessible and writeable via network places on client machine, it just does not appear as a network drive in my computer. Odd, very odd.

Post the script here that does the network mappings.

If it doesn't leak oil it must be empty!!

its not a script, in the active directory, under user accounts, i click on user account, went to the profiles tab, and mapped the home dir from there, its currently set to drive z:

I believe that you need to have a lin in the users login script to create the drive mapping for them. Try this one:-
echo Linking Drive H: to users home directory
NET USE H: /HOME

The drive can be any you choose.

Koopie,
You shouldnt have to use a script. I have a feeling its a permission problem. If the user does not have permission tp create a dictory then it will not work. Whats the logs showing on the client? It should show something about why its failing

after you say you have mapped it, does it show as a drive in my computer??? if not check the shared folder that you shared is everyone full!!

The most overlooked advantage to owning a computer is that if they foul up there's no law against wacking them around a little.
