Hi there,

I would like to have a hit counter on my website, just a simple text one, with no graphics etc, just plain numbers.

Not possible with client-side javascript.

You need server-side counter; if you have php/asp/whatever available this is easy to write. Otherwise there are many free counter services on a web (google: hit counter). Most of them generate small gif/png images... dunno about text-only.

With mysql back-end:

You probably need only page hits (use table "hits", ignore the rest).

With text file:

http://www.devdreams.com/phptutorials_simpletextcounter.php

Handles only one counter per file, probably requires chmod/chown permissions to be set under unix/linux box.

For a PHP-based hit counter, you'll need either a database or file-writing privileges.
