Greetings,

I'm unable to assigned a previously used extension onto a new phone. I deleted an extension to add it back to the available pool and I'm not trying to reuse that extension on a new station. So I create a new extension from a template, assign it that extension, configure the phone with gateway settings, extension, full number, but the phone boots up and says "client not registered." Not sure what to look for here.

Thank you,

The easiest way to add a new station would be to do a REGEN-SBCSU of an existing station on the same gateway card. Then just change the port number and extension on the ADD-SBCSU command.

Thanks for the response. Is there a way I can perform this using the HiPath Assistant web console?

You'd need to go to expert mode to enter commands.

From the Assistant, you can go to an existing station and click New. Some of the settings will follow to the new page.

Also, it's quite possible that everything is setup correctly in the PBX and there's a setting that's incorrect on the phone. Need more details, though.... type of phone, HFA or SIP?

I assume I'm stating the obvious when I say to remember you have to go into the phone itself and tell it the IP of the STMI card you built it on, what it's number is and a few other parameters that need to be set in the phone to get it to be able to communicate with the host?? If you are using a phone that was set up to get service from a different STMI card it will likely not have the correct gateway IP address in it, etc... If you have a DLS server you will have to register the MAC address of the phone in the DLS, enter it's number and assign the profile for the phone type and what gateway (STMI) board you built it on - the phone should see the DLS and download it's config automatically. Or if you have DLS and that phone was already in use previosly and you never deleted it out of the system you could have a conflict there too.

Yep that was it, it turns out the phone was configured to talk to the wrong gateway/STMI card. I don't have much experience with telecom and sort of inherited this system. Looking at the export mode in Web Assistant I saw another gateway/card listed I wasn't aware of. I switched the phone to the other gateway and it immediately logged in with the correct extension. Thanks for the help!
