Hi All,

I have inherited a HiPath 3800 exchange running approx 70 phones (mixture of Optipoint 500 and Gigaset SL3). There is no manual for the exchange. I have a cd with HiPath 3000 Manager E but no help files.
HiPath Manager is running and connected to the exchange.
My question is:
Bearing in mind that I am very much a noob with exchanges of any type, how do I allow/restrict access between internal numbers? i.e. B can call A and C, A can call B not C, C can call B not A etc.

Thanks in advance,
kannar

This is all done in cos....... but I do not recommend you to do anything with it as you said "Bearing in mind that I am very much a noob with exchanges of any type" I would say get someone in who has experience with this system, you could end up blocking all lines, extensions or have people calling out on the wrong lines if set wrong

Thank you for the feedback. I understand your caution, however I'm in a position where I don't have much choice in the matter. I have been looking through the configuration. If I have understood the setup correctly, communication between internal numbers/stations (which is what I'm concerned with) is set in the "Station" table of the "Group Assignment" page. Each station is assigned a group number then communication between groups is set in the connection matrix. Communication between two groups is either:
blank: not allowed
Blue/Yellow: Make/receive calls
Blue: Make calls only
Yellow: Receive calls only
All of our trunks are in group 10 with bi-directional links (this I'm not going to touch).
Despite your reservations I hope you can still give me some guidance. I am new to exchanges, but I have been working with Comms and IT for over 10 years. I look forward to hearing from you - or anybody else.
Regards Kannar

I've not worked with the 3800 and wasn't sure if it was more like the 150 or more like the 9006. Your description of the matrix means it's like the 150.

In that case, what you do is use the group assignment to assign each station (by port #) to one of the 6 groups. You can also do this with trunks and speed dial numbers so that only certain extensions have access to certain trunks, etc, and only certain extensions have access to certain blocks of speed dial numbers. In this way you can use your phone system for multiple clients, tenants, or restrict company divisions, etc.

Here is a PDF file I whipped up for you out of the help file that explains how the CON Matrix works. While I was at it I put up the help file too. Just save it on your disk and move it to the Assistant program directory and it should find it the next time you start up.

@donb01
that's excellent, thank you very much help file massive big up. That sounds like what I'm seeing. The only difference being the number of groups available, there are 64 groups available with this unit.
I'm gonna sit down lay this out in excel before starting anything on the exchange
thanks again
