Does anybody know the physical differences of the HIP, HIC and HIS headset cables???

I've got a site I constantly get called out to for headsets not working only to find they have used the wrong cable.

To be fair to the customer he's got boxes of these cables, with no part numbers or description on them, so they just grab the first cable they get there hands on and hope it will work!

I was hoping there was a physical difference between them, so we could easily identify the cable.

There is a label on my HIS cable where the quick disconnect is. It says HIS 1207.

Ditto for our HIC cables (HIC-1 0405). Stamped in yellow at the quick disconnect end of the cable.

You can have it all. You just can't have it all at once.

I have been told that there are differences to those cords.

HIS (for 96XX series IP phones)

HIP & HIC (either can be used for 46XX series IP phones)

But they look the same, unless you are paying attention and looking for the stamp with the cable type.

HIS 96xx and 16xx
HIP 46xx and 56xx
HIC Digital phones

but....just recently Plantronics and Avaya had a little falling out i think. this is from an email i received from Plantronics:

The HIP Cable (P/N#61804-43) used for connecting H-Tops to Avaya 4600 series phones, has been discontinued. Tests have shown that the existing HIC cable (P/N#49323-44) offers more robust compatibility with the EncorePro and SupraPlus lines. Customers should, with immediate effect, be offered HIC cables instead of HIP cables. All support and compatibility documentation have been modified to reflect this change.
