Can anybody tell me how to hide the GAL from public view in Exchange 5.5 I want all the groupings to be visible but not everybody to be shown in the GAL. Thanks
David

You would have to mark each individual account as hidden recipient. You can do this on the "Advanced" tab.

If anyone calls and says "I know a little something about computers" just tell them to reformat it.

Thanks but I don't want them hidden as such it is the global address list I want hidden. David

Had a look but that is not going to do it. My problem is that I work in a school and everybody has to see everybodies address. They are all in their year groups, teachers groups etc but because they do not look at who they are sending them to ie scott, andrew next to scott, anne in the GAL they are sending mail to the wrong people. The default setting is for all users to show in the GAL but I did come across something in the Microsoft site which said that there is something somwhere which can be set from 1 to 0 to hide users from the GAL but I can't find it again. Hope somebody can help. David

If you hide addresses from the GAL, they disappear from all the lists and cannot be resolved by anyone sending new mail to them. I don't think you want to do that.

I'm going to say ABVs again - all three postings you've made in this thread suggest that ABVs will do exactly what you want, which is remove the GAL and give people access to custom lists.
