Hello,

I'm having a temporary brain spasm on how to go about hiding the system tray icons that appear in the lower right of the screen for my terminal services users on a Win2k server. They are in their own organizational unit with a lot of features enabled such as hiding all desktop icons, blocking access to start menu options, etc... However, I for some reason can't find the option to hide the icons in the System Tray. There's one showing up they do not need to see and I want to get rid of from their sessions. The program itself does not have an option to permenantly remove the icon from the tray, only during that session.

Thanks,

Shawn

Hmmm, is it safe to assume from no responses that there is not a way to hide the system tray icons for specific Organizational Units?

not that I'm aware of. Individual programs may have that option, and you can edit the registry to remove icons from the system tray, but there's no policy to hide the whole tray.

I've looked over the OU many times now and I must have been wrong in thinking there was an option to hide the icons using the OU policy.

Will the registry edit simply hide the icon(s), or will it stop the program(s) from running? Can you point me to an article tor removing the icons from teh system tray by editing the registry?

It turns out, I have one program on one W2k prof client that I would like to run in the background (a macro program), but I don't want the System Tray icon present because it can allow someone to go into it and create a macro bypassing programs I blocked access to in the OU Policy.
