Is there a way of hiding reserve files(i.e. those with .RES file endings) so they don't show in the My Documents folders. We share Mac and PC's so all the Word files do not show in the Word Open and Save dialogue boxes on the PC's - only those written on PC's. I am not keen to unregister the file ending as I don't know quite what this means, but it seems unnecessary to have so many files showing.

Go into Windows Explorer. Right click on the file(s) you want to hide. Select Properties. Check the Hidden attribute, Apply, OK. Now go to View, Folder Options, View tab and select Do not show hidden files. You can dump all of the desired files into a folder and do this operation on the folder if you want to make it faster. (This is how to do it in Win98, but it should carry over in a similar fashion.)

Thanks, but is there a quicker way that does not invlove moving all the files to one folder? We have hudredes of reserve files all in many different folders and would ideally like to be able too just switch them off from somewhere central

This just dawned on me. Try going into Explorer, Tools, Find, Files or Folders. Type in *.res and let it fly. When the search finished, highlight all files in the list, right click, go to Properties, and apply the hidden attribute en masse this way.
