Hi, how to set Microsoft Access at the time the application is opened, ALL menu bars and toolbars are hidden. I ONLY need to show one toolbar, i.e. Compact and Repair Database. How to do this? Thanks.

Regards,
Sandra

Hi Sandra,

You can disable built-in toolbars from the menus, by going to Tools|Startup... Then deselect the Allow Built-in Toolbars checkbox.

You can create a custom Menu/Toolbar which only has the Compact/Repair Database option by right-clicking on the menus and choosing Customise.

You can then Click New... from the toolbars tab. Then click the Properties button. If you are creating a menu change the Type to Menu Bar instead of Toolbar and click close.

When the customise dialog box is open you can drag and drop buttons and menu items where you want. So.. you can copy the Compact & Repair Item from the built-in menu to your new one (Should just be a blank grey square), by dragging while holding CTRL.

When you startup up the database again the built-in toolbars should be hidden. You may have to hide them manually first.

Hope this is helpful.

Hi Dean, thank you for your help. I have created a toolbar for compacting and repairing database. However this toolbar has an arrow (drop down menu) to add or remove/customization, how to hide this so the whole toolbar only shows compact and repair database without offering any customization. Furthermore, the menu bar keeps on appearing when I open the application even though I already deselect menu bar from the customize menu. How to get rid off them for the overall application? Thanks.

Regards,
Sandra

Hi,

I don't think you can remove that little arrow, but you can specify in the Startup dialog box that users cannot make any toolbar/menu changes. This should grey out those options to customise.

I don't think you can remove all menu bars - this is just ticked again once you restart the db. If you untick 'allow full menus' in the startup dialog this will display a very basic menu bar. You could, on the other hand create your own.

Hi Dean, I've got rid off the arrow by changing the type from toolbar to menu bar. I've seen one application without any basic menu bars at all, didn't spot any coding for this either, so this is possible, however I don't know how to do it.

Regards,
Sandra

Me neither. I tried to do it through code, using Microsoft Office Object Library and the CommandBar object, but it wouldn only allow me to hide other toolbars and menu bars, but not the main menu bar.

Stumped! :$
