I having a problem logging onto a hicom 300 remotely via a modem. I am using ZOC pro. Emulation TV9xx 19200 N,8,1.I am not getting the login prompt, do I need to enter any key prompts.the screen displays Connect 14400, aa.

Hicom 300 release 9006.x needs ProComm using the ANSIBBS protocol and the special pansi3.kbd file from the 9006 utility disk to access via the dial-up modem in the custom callout adapter. For 9006.2 - 9006.5 you can use 19200, N81 for protocol. On 9006.6 with the CCA II it is 115,200 N81.

You can communicate with the RMX port using procomm and the TVI910 protocol at 4800 E 7 1. There is also a special keyboard mapping or some other file on the 9006 utility disk for that. RMX port is best accessed directly. It is VERY difficult to hook a modem to that port although I have done it. You need an external modem that can have its interface rate FIXED at 4800 E 7 1 even though the incoming connection speed may fluctuate. The RMX login prompt is a string of ##### across the screen after which you hit CTRL-X (if I remember correctly) to login - it's either that or CTRL-T....

Hi, superb as always. Thanks. Unfortunately I only have ZOC pro, I cant get PROCOMM for love or money, this is only for testing access to the login screen.

I've never been aware of anything besides Procomm that would enable you to manage these switches completely, although you should be able to make some progress with the RMX port - there's just a lot of stuff you can't access that way, such as backup routines, adding users and other stuff on the unix side of things.

I have also never been able to find a place to buy procomm in the last zillion years or so. Fortunately I own a copy, and I guard it with my life!! The last company I know that was actively selling it was Symantec. Maybe you could check their website or message their customer service. The Siemens techs must be getting it from somewhere. Otherwise, at risk of angering the forum gods, you might want to seek the wast resources of the internet to see if you can find an .so somewhere - make sure you try to find ProComm for Windows version 3 or higher for best results, but I do have an old laptop with DOS on it and that version of ProComm still works for basic administration - you just can't run some of the advanced maintenance scripts.

My best results with the RMX port and modems came with older MultiTech modems. I hooked the modem up to a laptop at 4800 E71 and programmed in the interface baud rate, then saved it as the default so if the power goes off it comes back that way. Then you can hook it to the RMX port - sometimes a null modem adapter is needed depending on at what point in the serial data path you connect the modem. Once you get that set up you should be able to dial into it and get in. Keep in mind the RMX port is THE most dangerous way to administer your switch if you don't know what you're doing - one little typo can be disastrous!

Thank you, for your help, and the warning, I will limit the remote access to name changes, Being an Avaya cm/acm/definity engineer, I may struggle with this. commands like display alarms, and disp station or change station seem easy now. The hicom docs, will require quite deep reading. I am indebted to you sir. Thanks as always.
