Hi,

We have 2 exchange servers on a site. Server A (main) and server B. They communicate with each other via a diginet line...they are both on the same organizational site.

On the main site A, we have another server (X) running an application which appends a banner onto outgoing e-mails. Therefore, we have to enable the smart host on the main exchange server...pointing to the the new application server. This seems to work, but when we try send internal mail between server A and B, it sits in the queue of server X. Internal mail does go to users whose mailbox resides on the same box.
Isn't internal mail supposed to be sent internally (even between the 2 exchange servers).....and not via the server X. As far as I understand, only outbound SMTP traffic should be redirected to server X.

We also pointed the Smart host of the other exchange server to server X. Internal mail from server B to server A, also ends up sitting in server X's queue.

Is this an exchange problem or with the app on server X?

Hi,

where have you enabled the Smarthost ??
Don't make the entry for the Smarthost on the Server.
If you have an SMTP Connector for your Routing Group, this is the point to make the entry for the Smarthost.
Then, only mails to external Adresses going to Server X.
Internal Mail directly send to the correct E2K Server

Howsit,

I dont have any SMTP connectors setup....I enabled the smart host under the default SMTP virtual server. I did this on both exchange servers.

Do I need to setup a Connector?

In light of this issue....I am exploring the use of SMTP connectors. I currenly have none configured. Mail routes out using the default smtp virual server.

We have 2 exchange servers on the same site. I need to enable smart host to route outgoing mail via a system which will append a banner onto the e-mails. When we enable the smart host, mail between the 2 exchange servers does not seem to get to each other....what connector(s) do I need to install. Wont this conflict with the existing virual smtp server?
