Hi,

SQL 6.5 Database Trf from one machine to another machine.

I have a database file and have taken backup of it. File name : eData.dat

When I try to restore in another machine. It does not recognises the file.

Question is what other file should I take in order
to activate and restore the file in another machine which
is in another office.

Or what is the other method of transferring the database.

Help

The best way to move database from one SQL server to another is as follows:

1 - Do a SQL Server backup/dump of the database. This will create a .bak file.
2 - On the other machine/SQL Server create a new database the same size and structure as the original
3 - Copy the .bak file from the 1st machine to the 2nd machine
4 - On the 2nd machine, go into SQL Server and do a database Restore/load from the .bak file

Hope this helps
