Hi Everyone:

Can someone tell me what happen to MSCONFIG in Windows 2000? Is there a new name for it, or a new way to access it?

Thanks a lot
Trudye

I found this on the web but have not tried it mtself yet.

Many people ask about MSCONFIG in win 2K and here's a suggestion:
Go to and the download will start automatically. Copy the file into System32 and you're ready to run MSCONFIG just as you did under Win 98 and ME.

Thanks ff1048 for responding. I tried to bring the page up that you suggested but received the msg "Unable to contact server" and the "This page cannot be displayed" standard.

Is there another URL I should try?

Trudye:
There isn't too much info on this and you are correct that link is now down . I did find these suggestions as to apps:

There are a number of 3rd party apps.
StartupCPL

Startup Cop
However, you can also use the Win98 Msconfig. Just ignore the errors

If you don't want to mess with 3rd party apps, I found a Win2000 friendly version of MSCONFIG.EXE at this site:

It's right around the middle of the page. After you've downloaded it, unzip and copy it to C:\windows\system32. I've got it running for me with no problems.

You are a life saver, I see why you are a manager of IT.

Thanks again

No problem! Actually, THANK YOU, as I would never have bothered trying to see if this would work unless you had asked...;-)
