Hi all

I have installed a new service on a NT4-machine
When I try to start it the following error-message
occurs after a while :

Error 2186: The service is not responding to the control function

What does this error mean ?
Is the registry not set up correct, or...?

Regards Hench

What service is it ? This error often occurs when a service times out waiting for some other resource, eg. name resolution, or mapped drive.
It is a general sort of error, just meaning that the service can't respond to a command such as 'start'.
I had a similar problem on a SQL server where this message would occur at boot up. The service relied on a drive mapping which took a while to map, meanwhile the sql service had already timed out.
Try by-passing any name resolution problems by specifying the target IP the service refers to. (I'm guessing here).

Cheers,
Will.
