I have just taken a new position where the previous IT Manager did not document anything. I have inherited a PIX501 that is currently serving up the VPN connection to a branch office. I have no configs docs or passwords to get the configs.

Question: Without blowing away the current config, how can I change the passwords? Is it at all possible?

Thanks for any help...

Don't touch anything until you've purchased a good PIX book. Password recovery is a bit tricky on a PIX, so make sure you do it right.

S3m1n0l3s,
It isn't really that hard for the password recovery. Connect a console cable and ethernet and reboot the PIX. The PIX version will scroll by.

Here are the images and a complete walkthrough

If you are using Windows and don't have a TFTP server - Solarwinds makes a great one. Be sure and add UDP port 69 to your Windows firewall exceptions.

Supergrrover,

Thank you very much! I am in now and I have found that the Ex (fired) employee has an account on the PIX. I am in Privilege mode and I did a 'show username' and his account is there. How do I delete his account from the PIX config? I have tried the 'clear username' but it keeps telling me 'Incorrect options or arguments.' Here is my syntax:
clear username <username>

Thanks,
James
