When I try to access the NEWCOMPUTER(KEITH1)
From here I get a permission error.

What can you suggest for me to check so I can see both computers on each computer and not get permission errors? If you need more info please ask, I would like to get this woking. There have been times when i would get a good ping from both computers but i end up changing something and remember what it was i changed. I've gotten all my info from Microsoft.com and i follow everyting word for word, but i guess i keep missing something.

Thanks,

Check for a firewall on newcomputer:

. Check for the native ICF firewall
. Check for "hidden' firewalls in Avntivirus software such as PC-Illan
. If using a third-party firewall, set it to permit all addresses in your subnet (192.168.0.x as trusted.

You do not specify the state of Simple File Sharing. Use Folder Options to disable Simple file sharing, and then make Kieth2 a new user with password on Newcomputer, and Kieth1 a new user with password on Oldcomputer.

Share something: drive, folder, printer on both machines.

bcastner, thanks man, you rememinded me that i had PC-cillan's firewall up. When i disabled it, the whole thing works great. Thanks again. My other question to that is. If i leave it disabled all the time then i am open for attack on the internet right? So do i need to enable it when i want to get on the net?

thanks,

KMart2004

You should be able to specify that the LAN subnet is a trusted zone. From the Pc-cillan web site:

1. Select Settings > Personal Firewall > Trusted sites. Click Add.

2. Enter the name or IP address of the computer that will share files, and click OK.

bcastner, i am sorry, i thought i did click on a star for you. You really do deserve it. Thanks for pointing that out shrubble. I havent been to tek-tips in a while and i guess i forgot the correct way to give a star.

Thanks again for everyones help,

KMart2004.
