Help with QT edit functions.

Hi, I bought Quicktime Pro because I have some movies from a Sony Dsc 717 camera that need to be rotated 90 degrees and need some other editing. I can highlight the areas in question but can't invoke edit - cut, paste etcetera. The Web site was not very helpful. Can someone give me a few pointers on this or point me to a web site or publication that is a bit more detailed in explanation?
