Lately we’ve been getting lots of emails with: myPostcards, greetingcards, ecards and some other emails with an attached pdf
Of course, they are different ip's.
How can I filter those out on the server?
Pat, I just applied tarpitting. That was the only thing I was missing.
Still, I don't see how I can get rid of these two types of emails. I mean, i can tell the users to create a rule (looking for specifc workds) but shouldn't I be able to do this from the server?
I would suggest a third party spam filter, I think you really need more advenced email scanning tools to deal with the amount of spam we get today. I use XWall as a first line of defence, plus Trend Micro AV and Anti Spam which manage to stop all but occasional spam messages. It takes some time and effort to get your configuration in line with company messaging requirements but it's all well worth it.
The postcard emails are viruses, not really spam. A good, Exchange aware AV solution should easily catch them (assuming it's up to date and properly configured).
As for spam, the SP2 features can REALLY reduce the spam that hits the mailboxes. And, the built in Outlook 2003/2007 features complete it.
