Ok last week i had isa server 2004 setup as a edge firewall everything worked ok not to many problem but when i reinstalled everything and changed it to back firewall, i have been have problem with two things, outlook express and aol i-m they are not going through and i have a dept that requires that they aol and today i had to turn off the firewall client on those users computers cause the firewall client would not let them out, but as soon as i turned off the firewall client the users could use aol i-m. I dont get it, if it worked on fri then i should have worked today cause the only thing i really changed when i reinstalled the software was the firewall template from edge to back, is there that much of a difference between the two and if so what did i do wrong to allow this to happen????

Do you have 2 ISA servers running in conjunction? If so, are they both set up to act as proxy servers? If this is the case, then the aol may be making through the first proxy just to get blocked by the second.

Another thing to check is the client configuration. Make sure that the client updated to the "new" configuration. If you double click on the system tray icon there's an Update Now button.

Finally, did the internal IP Address of the server change? If it did, then your clients may be "confused" as to where the server is. If this is the case, you'll need to update WINS and DNS with the new information(if it hasn't already auto-updated yet).

Last but not least, verify that the PC knows where the server is located.

On the client, open a command window.
Type 'ping isaserver' --with your real server name
This will give you an IP address
Type 'ping -a 192.168.1.1' --with the ip address you got in previous step.
It should come back with the exact same computer name.
