After defragging my 2 drives, It hung up. Never to run again!! The screen said it shut windows down to protect my computer. Run chkdsk and try again. It would not respond to anything I did. I lost both drives that day. 20 years of produced and composed music. I did however salvage one drive with important files but lost the most important. I just recently upgrade to 1.7 P4 256mgram windows XPpro. And have had to format my drives about 9 times in the last two years. everything is upgraded except the drives.

Could the drives be #$@$%ed? How would I solve this problem the next time?

Could you look in the Event logs for the exact error messages you received? I suspect there is no reason to lose anything if you do not reformat the drives.

You could take the drives to a specialist in data recovery if the data is very importent to you. Always remember Backup Backup Backup.

Thanks Guys. But I have already lost the data and am now nmoving forward. I needed to know how to prevent this the next time. God forbid!!. Is there a fast external large drive on the market to purchase.I have firewire and USB2.0
Plug & Play? Thanks again
