I would appreciate it greatly if someone could/would help me with the setup of the files necessary for a primary and secondary server (running: SUN - Solaris 8 - 5.8 Generic_108528-21 and DNS/BIND 8.2.2-P5)that will be connected from within my to the Internet.

I have the /etc/hosts, /etc/hostname.dmfe0,
/etc/nsswitch.conf and /etc/resolv.conf configured.

It's understanding the "other files" that I need assistance with (named.conf, named.local, named.root (or named.ca), hosts.rev and if required zone-hosts.

For example, if my primary and secondary servers IP names are fgdns01 and fgdns02 with IP Addresses 200.33.57.122 and 200.33.57.123 (respectively) and my domain name is "fgcorp.org"; I have the following information configured:
---------------------------------------------------------

/etc/hosts has:
127.0.0.1 localhost
200.33.57.122 fgdns01 fgdns01.fgcorp.org loghost
200.33.57.123 fgdns02
----------------------------------------------------------

/etc/hostname.dmfe0 has:
fgdns01
-----------------------------------------------------------

/etc/nsswitch.conf (it's pointing to nsswitch.dns) with
the line for the line: hosts: files dns to be in it.

----------------------------------------------------------

/etc/resolv.conf has:

domain fgcorp.org
nameserver 200.151.5.55
nameserver 200.151.17.251
nameserver 200.151.20.251
search fgcorp.org

----------------------------------------------------------

I have Company xyz, who publishes my domain and IP to the "root servers". I have my primary/secondary servers within my company fgcorp; and connected directly to the Internet (oh, yes there is a firewall between the servers and the internet connection.

All that these servers would be resolving are the:
mail.fgcorp.org and web.fgcorp.org and if someone happened to need to get to other sites outside of fgcorp.org.

If someone would/could provide me with the layout of the actual files (listed above) with the information listed above; it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Quite a big topic there - for a start have a look at the sun docs web site - Solaris 8 Naming Setup and confifuration guide. It explains all the file and what to put in them with examples.

See the above link and the follow it through - 4 pages of specifics

Basically named.conf sets the server specifics and permissions and defines all the other files it will use. named.local is a standard file that allows localhost lookups to work. named.ca is another generic file to provide root server details (this can be ftpd from internic). The other files are the databases for forward and reverse lookups - where you put your actual IP to name details. These are normally the only files you need to modify after the initial setup.
