I am trying to create a report with..

* four different sections
* using a sub-report for each
* using a different table for each

yet I want to use the same parameters for record selection: StartDate, EndDate, SalesPerson.

I can do it by duplicating the parameters in each report, but that seems like a lot of work initialing the same three, four times. I tried to create variables in the subreport to essentially pass the values, but they don't seem to be getting through.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

Try linking the subreports to the container report using the parameters.

I've tried that, but I must be dropping the ball somewhere. If I preview the sub-report, it prompts for the parameters and works. If I preview the main report, it prompts for the parameters... and doesn't display anything.

I should add...

I am trying to use the parameters in the record selection area. If I use the "select data" option in the link window, it selects based on the wrong criterea.

Any suggestions?

Create the parameters in each subreport, and the same in the container. Use the parameters in the subreport selection formula.

The key is that when you link them, don't use the automatic feature of CR, this will add enw parameters and criteria to your subreports. Move over the parameter in the container and select the existing parametr from the subreport. You will have to scroll down a bit to see them. In v8.5 the scroll arrows for this little drop down are so tiny that they are almost invisible (a new bug). Ken Hamady, On-site/Phone Crystal Reports Training/Consulting
