Hi,

I have just installed office 2000 on an XP machine:

When I double click on the MDB file I get the following boxes up saying:

Windows Installer> "preparing to install"

Please wait while windows configures Microsoft access 2000...

And then my database opens?

Can anybody shed any links on why this should happen.

Many thanks

Mike

Hi,

This was a machine that has been rebuilt from win. 2000 to have XP on it.

It did I believe have office 2000 on before. I looked before I installed office onto the XP under add/remove to see if it had any other versions remaining on since the upgrade to XP and there wasn't any.

Thanks

Mike

I just saw this same thing happen on a friends Windows XP Pro PC that has always had Office 2000 installed. He aske me to help because his son installed AOL 8.0 and the PC went haywire. What I found was that AOL 8.0 did something to the default user account. When the system booted, Win XP reported that user profile was corrupted and was stating with a temporary user profile. Any changes made to Windows setting would be lost. I then attempted to run Word 2000 and received the same message that you receive. When I rebooted the PC, the same scenario occurred. I had to create a new user account to stop this. However, everything on the PC that was under the original user account is now gone.

I have to assume that your problem is user account related also.
