we've flushed the dns resolver cache on two of our workstations but there are a couple of static entries which won't go:

one for hot-searches.com
one for lender-search.com

is there any way of getting rid of these for good as we believe it's stopping us accessing our company website (all other pcs on the network can access it no probs)

Don't know what os's you're using, but I'd check your hosts files. There are some spy ware programs that change your host files and add entries to them so they won't go away. Most people don't think to look in the file. Good luck.

thanks for responding Glen!

we've checked the hosts file in C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc and the only entries are the local 127.0 address and the ip address for our own company website.

might there be another hosts file (a ghost one) which is causing the static entries?

we've run Spybot AND our fully up to date Sophos AV software and found nothing.

Check your dns server just for jollies, see if the web-sites are there. This is a long shot since it only affects 2 machines. Also, do a registry search for the web-sites on the clients. Good luck.

Did you scan the Add/Remove programs group for any suspicious programs?

I had a problem like this on one of my users computers and Ad-Aware didn't pick anything up. After taking a look at the Add/Remove programs, I found one of those advertising programs listed and removed it to fix the problem.
