I have a T1 connection and I would like to set up internet sharing. I am running XP SP1.

The problem is that the LAN connection properties advance tab has only one chechbox. It is for firewall. There is no checkbox to enable internet connection sharing (ICS).

My friend has DSL. He has the checkboxes for ICS for in the DSL connection properties.

In Win 2K, there is a sharing tab in the LAN connection properties.

Does XP take a setp backward disallowing T1 sharing? Any workaround? If that is the case, is there any simple NAT routing software? WinRoute and WinGate come with too much stuff.

thanks!

How about a simple router? How many computers are we talking here? I really don't think ICS is a good solution anymore. I mean with the cost of routers now that give full NAT control, etc I think it is a better option.

I followed that instruction and use the setup wizard. Except messing up the control-panel internet setting, it did not bring anything new.

I can't use router because the other box is connected to the PC via serial.

oh dear.. I am sorry. I take it there is a reason for using serail instead of installing an Ethernet NIC.

sorry I cannot be of more help then I stopped using ICS at windows 98.

Your other post is here.

ICS check box missing

I would think that a <$20 router (you can get wireless B routers even for <$20) and <$5 worth of cables would solve this problem, but I guess that's just me.

Wishdiak,

plus $8-$20 for a new nic for the computer using a serial connection ;)

The other box is a Tivo Series 1. That is the reason for serial.

ohhh why didn't you just say that in the first place. Now I understand. Well in that case just get a Tivo Series 2 and a USB wired/wireless adaptor

Hee Heee ;) just kidding.

But there shouldn't be any reason why you couldn't use ICS. Your computer shoulnd't know the difference between using a T1 or cable/dsl. It is just a network connection.

I had the same thought. At least in Win 2K, I got that Sharing tab. However, M$ apparently think differently. Or I got some setting wrong.

After running Network Setup Wizard, not it finished with "An error has occured ..." There is no message/explanation on the error at all.

I've installed SP2 and nothing changed. Can anyone help?

Thanks!
