I have a new windows xp system - and an old win 98 system - Both have networking cards installed - I have an ethernet hub (Netgear EN 104) I would like to be able to link both systems with this hub...I have all the cables I need...

Can someone tell me what I have to do on the XP system ( permissions settings????) and What I have to do on the win 98 settings? to enable a netwok connection here - I think I have to set up some kind of workgroup or something like that???

I want to use my XP system as the main server so to speak and be able to pul files off its hard drive for use on the win 98 system...

If this is too lengthy to explain can someone point me to the quickest how to link???

Thanks again to all of you guys who have helped me so much so far - this board has been a great site!!!

In both winxp and win98 you need to create a domain or workgroup and assign an IP address for the two. Make sure the win98 has the tcp/ip protocole installed.
Start with that and share some forlders on winxp. It should work fine. Dont forget to reboot both pcs.
Have a good one.

thanks,
