HELP setting up a vpn and linksys BEFVP41router

I am trying to set up a vpn in a small office (wkstations-windows2000pro, LAN) to connect to another small office (wkstations--same, linksys BEFVP41 router, LAN).

Is there any step by step instructions out there?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It is 2 different machines that I need to access and I do not need to access it all the time. What exactly does sharename mean?

The folder/file you are trying to access. If it has not been shared, you will not be able to access it from another machine. Well, you can go thru the administrative share, c$. That will bring you to the C drive, and you'll have to browse from there....

How do I make a file/folder shared? Can I make the whole c drive shared?

Yes, you can share the whole C drive. Just be careful for security purposes. You can also access it thru the hidden default share. \\<ipaddress>\c$

Hello, I hope you do not mind my intrusion in this tread.

First I would like to say thanks to all you experts giving us ‘green” people advice I for one really appreciate it.

I have read both this tread and another that Markku had responded to.

I am about to embark on the same adventure as Jerk (a house to house VPN or small office to small office). I have been advised to purchase either 2 BEFVP41 linksys or 2 BEFSX41 linksys routers to set this up. I am very green with these things and rusty with networking in general (but I love a challenge ) spending a couple hundred dollars is no big deal what is important is stability, security, and easy access. The use for this will be for a single home PC (bookkeeper) to get into quickbooks (on a single PC) at another home/small office about once or twice a week. The office side has a cable connection currently and the home side will be using dial up for the next couple of months then probably will be set up with a satellite connection. Last peace of info is if it is possible to back up the quicken files on the home side (from the office side) once a week or month that would be nice as well. Ok there is more.. the cable connection currently is not a static IP but we could get that set up with out much of a problem.

OK here is the question.. Since I have not started yet I would like to know if buying one of these two routers is the best way to go or am I making a mistake right off the bat? Is there a better way to go or better routers to purchase. (keep in mind your talking to someone that needs his hand held every step of the way )
