In the attempt to bypass a password on a Cisco 800 SOHO I ran into a little trouble in rommon mode, and ended up erasing all of the flash file. WIth that said I have since downloaded what I hope is a good copy of the IOS from emule. But when I try and upload it to the router's ram using xmodem I receive an error stating that the remote host has stopped the process because ERR:File not a valid executable. It has happen with two different files so I am not sure if it is the file or something I am doing wrong. I am connect to the router view the com port and am using windows hyperterminal. Can anyone help!!
Thanks Greg

The name of the file is c800-k8nosy6-nm.123-1a.

It sounds like the image is either corrupt or not compatible with your router. Are you able to download a copy of the IOS from anywhere else?

Hi Cagirls,
Yah It looks like most likely that it isn't the correct ios for the router, I guess I will have to face teh music at work and hope they have a copy of the software. Cheers G

I hope it works out for you. :) Is the router still under warranty?

Just at thought - is the file named properly - by this I mean is it a .bin file?

That would explain it then- that's why you're getting an error message stating that it isn't a valid executable- it needs to have a .exe extension. Am I right Davemead?

No on the .exe question it should be a .bin.

Greg what kind of 800 router is it (ie 801, 827, or 837)

Also what are you using for to xmodem the IOS?
