Hi

My friend Paul has a Cannon I900D inkjet printer.
It quite working and after not being able to get it working he called me and we tried together. He has a Dell computer running Windows XP.

Here is what I did.

I uninstalled the printer and all the software.
Ran Registry Cleaner and removed all the referenced to the printer, then rebooted the computer.

With the printer unconnected to the computer I reinstalled the drivers and plugged in the printer.

Nothing happened.

When I look in Device Manager there is an asterisk on “Other Devices” and the printer is listed there. If I click on printer options it says, “This device is working normally”

In control panel the printer shows as installed.

However there is no indication when the USB cable is plugged and unplugged (no new device found message).

If I try and print anything it says that the printer is offline. It does not say that the printer cannot be found, is missing anything or any kind of error message.
Nothing seems to get past this point.

As a last stab I tried a different USB cable from a printer that is working. That didn’t help either.

I don’t know anything else to try.

Anyone have any ideas?

Mike

Try the printer with a different PC. If it doesn't work with that either then it's faulty.

Not familiar with your particular printer, but check the manual to see if it will run a self test without being connected to a computer.

Second, look on the manufacturer's website to see if there is any "hidden" feature which allows the printer to be reset back to factory defaults.

Hi

Well the problem has been solved.
Paul called me last night and said that the printer was working.

Here is the story.

This printer was a replacement for the original one that quit working shortly after he bought it.

He brought this one home and plugged it in and since the drivers were already installed it worked without having to do any of the installation routine.

A couple of days ago when he was having trouble with it he uninstalled it and then reinstalled starting from scratch, just as we did yesterday. From then on he couldn’t get it to work at all.

Last night he decided to give it one more try.

When he started to insert the installation disk that came with the printer, (he had returned the original disk with the printer) he noticed that the disk was identified as being for another model printer. I had not even looked at what it said on the disk when I was there. When he just handed it to me, it said Cannon on it and I had stuck it in the drive.

Well to make a long story short he downloaded the drivers from the Cannon web site installed them and the printer works fine.

It would appear that somehow the wrong disk was included with the printer when it was packaged.

Well at least the problem is solved.

Thanks for the help.

Mike

Glad it's all working now - thank you for informing us of the solution.
