Hi all,

I am hoping I could get some resolution to my problem. I have used NTbackup on my XP to backup my local system as well as other systems via network drives, unfortunately the XP machine's primary hard drive failed. I was able to recover the *.bks backup description files but could not
recover the *.bkf files. After installing a new Hard-Drive and re-installing XP professional I am unable to catalog and/or look at the content of any of my backup DLT-III tapes, I have approximately 50 DLT tapes with backed up data going back 1 year ago using XP's NTbackup utility. Now, the question is, did I lose all the data on these tapes just because a single *.bkf catalog file(s)?

If there are other alternatives could you please direct me on the right direction, how can I make XP NTbackup utility see and read the content and/or catalog these tapes and be able to restored.

Additionally, when I ran the NTbackup in the past I set the
program to not be bound to the administrator ownership
but to allow access to the tapes by any user(s) on the system.

I Thank you in advance for your help

These seem to be suggesting you can delete catolog files and recreate them when required, or maybe I'm misunderstanding them. See what you think.

Hi linney,

You answer links was right on the money, I was able to load the DLT tapes and let NTbackup recreate the catalog files.

Thank you for your tips.
