I have a new person taking over for an employee that just quit. Say extension 4185

How do I make that change in my Definity System and on the voicemail system as well.

Do I just do Change Status and change the name? Can I just change the name and password on the voicemail box?

Thanks...

in the switch....

command: change station 4185

then just change the name on the phone. if you don't want to to show up in the directory precede with *
(ex. *Doe, John)

then in vmail

enter command: change subscriber 4185

Change the name field, although it cannot be the same as another name in the system. If you want the calls going to your voicemail box, then just change the password, review the messages, out the mailbox (command: remove subscriber 4185) and then put 4185 in the secondary extension field in your mailbox profile.

Hope this helps.

John

Thanks,

That is what I thought, but when I did change station 4185 and changed the user name...hit enter...it just went to the next field...I could not finish, it just kept going to the next field.....

I must be doing something wrong....

If you are using the terminal that's usually attached to the PBX, then you shold notice that there are two ENTER keys.

One is on the number pad. You should NOT have the num lock key pressed, and then press ENTER key on the number pad.

Leaving the numlock off also makes things like the 'HELP' key on the number pad work. Pressing the 'HELP' key will give you some information about acceptable field entries, as well as commands that will work on the command line.

There may be two enter keys, make sure you are using the one by the number pad I believe.

If you are using GEDI, the (Enter) key for submitting changes is the F3 key.

In voicemail, I usually remove the subscriber and then re-add it under the new name. It doesn't take that much longer, and then the new person "starts fresh" with recording their name and selecting their VM password. Makes for less questions from the users.

Above is the link to Avaya. Go under support, and then look for "The little books". These little books are a great starting point for doing basic and advanced administration and the third little book will help you with basic levels of repair/troubleshooting. This same link will get you to all the documentation for your current load software. Have fun and welcome to the Avaya world...

Before removing subscribers, it is best to log in to the mailbox using your phone, and delete all messages in the mailbox. If you are not going to remove the subcriber, then the new subscriber needs to log in and press 5 and then 5 again and record the name for the mailbox, and it is probably a good idea for you to login into the mailbox and remove any personal greetings from the old subscriber.(press '3' to get to personal greetings)
Use the same format as far as last name first as the old mailbox. Some companies have first name first, set is up like the old mailbox name field was.
