You don't have to get rid of all those fonts forever, you know. You just need to get them out of the Windows>>Fonts folder - the only place that programs can access them from (except PS fonts?). I have an enormous font collection which I keep under control with Bitstream's Font Navigator (which comes with Coreldraw). Fonts I am not currently using I store in a separate folder I created called (a very imaginative) 'Fonts'. If I need to use one of the fonts stored there, I use FN to drag and drop it into my Windows>>Fonts folder. You don't *need* FN (or any other font manager) - it just makes it easier to see what the font looks like without having to open the font file. Alternatively, in Windows Explorer, you can click on the Windows>>Fonts folder, and under 'File' is a menu item 'Install new font'. You can browse to where you have your extra fonts stored, highlight the font you want to activate, and click OK. This will put it where you can then apply it in your work.
After completing the project for which that particular font was used, I usually then put it back in the extra fonts folder - otherwise it can be very easy to clog up your Windows>>Fonts folder again! After completion and printing of the document, I will often write myself a little note at the start of the document stating which font i used so that if I want to reopen it again, I know which font I must install before it looks OK (Pagemaker will tell you this automatically but some other applications - such as Word - won't). If I need to reprint, I can always delete my little note and rewrite it when i have finished.
Or you can just store all your extra fonts on a disk or CD.
