Hello,

I hope someone can give me a hand! I was a DBA back in the States, but am now teaching business aps in Nantong, China. Being born an American, I felt a sense of adventure in moving to a foriegn country without learning the language first. Don't get me wrong, the class is English-speaking. However the desktop they gave me is running Windows XP, and unfortunately is using Chinese for all warnings, menu items, help files... (the XP version is possibly pro -- I can't read!)

Anyways, some things are easy (the big "E" will pull up the net) but other things are incredibly difficult (like changing the options or preferences on ANYTHING).

Soooo.... Can anyone give me a step-by-step on how to get XP to use English rather than Chinese?

Thanks in advance,
Jason

P.S. -- They don't serve Chinese food in America. It's all just regular American food with a slight Chinese twist. If in doubt, try finding chicken feet or fish lung at your favorite all-you-can-eat resturaunt!

I think it is re-install an English version of XP, or learn Chinese, fast.

What do some of the local Microsoft offices suggest?

Can you install an English version of XP, then install the MUI?

Windows XP & Windows 2000 MUI

"The Windows XP/2000 MUI is sold only through Volume Licensing programs such as the Microsoft Open License Program (MOLP / Open), Select, and Enterprise agreement (or with a new computer as an OEM version at customer request). It is not available through retail channels.

Multilingual User Interface Resource Files are only sold as a bundle with the English version of Windows, to make absolutely sure customers have the English version of the OS when installing MUI.

For Windows XP this bundle consists of 6 CDs - one containing the base operating system in English, plus 5 CDs containing the Multilingual User Interface files.

After completing setup of the base English OS from CD1, run the program MUISETUP.EXE from any of the resource CD's to install the required User Interface Languages. MUISETUP.EXE can also be run from a network share, if desired."

One solution is to ask them install Kingsoft's Powerword on your PC.
