I'm somewhat new to Dreamweaver so be patient at my boneheadedness. I've used it for years mainly as an editor but now I need to set up a template and styles sheets.

I think I figured how to create new a CSS. But when I apply it, it shows up in Dreamweaver fine but not when previewed in Navigator 4.7 and/or Explorer 5.5. (text align, size, etc.)

I noticed that if I make the changes in the Properties window then it works. So my main question is what is the difference between setting up HTML styles and CSS styles. How do they work together? If I have CSS set up, do I even need to bother with HTML styles?

I am a 8 year veteran on QuarkXPress and have a great understanding of style sheets but this just baffles me.

And also in the Properties, what is the meaning of format=none, default font, and size=none? Is it if I don't assign a value, all the values will default to the user's settings.

I know I'm asking a lot but would really appreciate some help. Thanks.

Stan

CSS gives you more control over font sizes than HTML. If you use an external sylesheet, CSS also allows you to make global changes to the font formating merely by modifying the external stylesheet. With HTML, you'd have to edit each HTML page individually.

If you use CSS Styles, you don't have to bother with HTML Styles.

How are you applying the CSS Styles? Are you using classes or are you defining your styles in the <p> tag?
