HELP! I can't import files in AE??

what files are you trying to import? on the import window, near the bottom, there is a drop down menu. change it from, "all acceptable files" to "all files" or something like that. this allows you, for example, to import avi's, when it wouldn't normally.
I had the same problem, I could import some files but not everything I would need. I discovered by chance that it's not what your importing, it is where you are importing from. I could import anything, mov,bmp,psd,mpg etc. located in one folder but not from another folder in the same directory,AFX would simply quit. I now have everything for comps in the same folder.
