Hey guys.. I really need to know how you can plot separate data sets within the same graph. I'm trying to create a graph that plots seasonal data. The x-axis will contain the months January through December. The y-axis will contain the employment numbers. January's graph will be plotted based on the data on the first sheet, February's graph will be plotted based on the data on the second sheet, March's data will be plotted based on the data from the third, and so on... Each month will contain two series... First, it will contain the employment average for that month, and another data series within that month will contain the actual plotted data within that month. I don't want any of the month's graphs to connect to another month's graph. They just need to be separate data sets plotted on the same graph.. How can i do this?? Please help!! I'd REALLY appreciate it. Thanks! :)

I have tried to sketch out a sample of your dream graph on a piece of paper - without success ! Can you mail me an Excel book with samples of each months figures, preferably with their individual graphs.

Hey tbl... Im new to this thing and I was wondering where I can find your email address to send you the Excel workbook. Please let me know. Thanks!

Oh dear, I thought that this forum had a private mail system. The best I can offer is to contact me tonight, it is now 18:32 Belgian time on Windows Messenger looking for my name under Richard, or give me some way of contacting you.

Please do not take threads off-line unless it is absolutely necessary. This is not a helpdesk and as such, the theory is that EVERYONE gets to see the question and solution. Obviously, if it goes off-line, this doesn't happen

How many figures do you have for each month - is it just 2 figures per month or daily figures per month ??

Thread will continue as soon as I can visualise what eclipsed82 is trying to achieve. He has had no other responses.

And has only described the data once....they have not tried to provide a clearer explanation yet. Sometimes it only takes 1 question to obtain enlightenment. For example - if I get an answer to my question, I will have a pretty good idea of the layout and what they are trying to achieve. At that point, I will start making some suggestions.

Hey guys.. So here's what one worksheet in the workbook consists of.. it's the data for January, then there's a worksheet for the data of February, and so on.

January Data

Year EmpSum
1990 5192457
1991 5154133
1992 5115940
1993 5202887
1994 5298596
1995 5470051
1996 5528216
1997 5621837
1998 5730701
1999 5810781
2000 5911040
2001 5929866.068
2002 5783697.447
2003 5716239.447
Total 77466441.96
Average 5533317.283

WE're going to plot the Employment numbers based on those years, and then also plot the average for that year. We have to do this for every month, and so the x-axis will contain the months and each month will be plotted. Its basically a seasonal plot.

I now have a much better idea of your data layout - thank you for that - now I just need to know what kind of chart are you looking at making ?

Each month plotted as....a stacked bar ??? a load of lines ??

Hi, its going to be a line graph.. So basically, January's annual average will be plotted as a straight line, and all of the actual employment numbers for each year of that month will be plotted too, so they will fall above or below the annual average line... then February will have its annual average plotted, and its actual employment numbers plotted... and so on. Let me try to draw it out here:
30
25 _x__x_
20 x
15 x __x_ x x x x x
10 x x x___x x___x
5
0 Jan Feb March ...... Dec

The x's are the actual employment numbers per year. The lines are the annual averages of that month.
