help, crash and tried to restore, no luck...

when booting blank window with message
windows root / system32/hal.dll please reinstall

called dell tech svcs and
booted with xp cd
repaired using recovery consul screen typed hkdsk

said 1 ((or more) not sure)) file found and corrected
with system info

then rebooted --same error message

tech svcs said to relaod, any way to try something else?
