Hi all,

I have changed the admin password on my sbs server and now my arcserve is causing me massive problems. I had to reset the caroot password with the authsetup tool, but not when a job starts, I get a cannot log-in to database error, the tape is then spit out.

I've tried to do a database cleanup from command line using admin and secret as the username and password but this didn't work, still got log-in error. I also tried to initialise the database, but it said that it could not initialise asjob database.

I am far from an arcserve expert, so would appreciate any help anybody can give me. Could I even replace the database with a new one? I tried deleting it from server admin but that didn't work. It crashes when I click on the database manager, really need some help pleaseee???

Thank you in advance,

learn2tech

So where do you have a problem now?
With the caroot password or only with the database or both?

You should try to structure your message a little bit better. I read it three times now and I don't understand a thing from what you're saying.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Hi GSC,

Thanks for getting back to me.

The first error I was getting was:

Cannot authorise user caroot:

However, I fixed this.

The problem I was having after this was:

Cannot log-in to database. And it would not let me initialise the database from server admin.

I did some more research after posting the message and I've now fixed this after reading another post, on how to initialise the database when you get these types of errors.

Hopefully this will solve my problem. I will keep the board updated.

Hi,

In faq478-5164 you have a documented procedure how to initialize your database.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Hi All,

I finally initialised the database but now nothing is appearing in job status.

When i click on this link, I get the following:

The job detail is not available.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

learn2tech

ok,
To get back your job status you have to do the following:

* Click on the Activity Log tab and then click on the Log button.
* Ensure that the Organize option on the activity Log tab has all three (3) check boxes enabled under "use filters" and the pull down menu beneath it has "show all messages".
* Open a command prompt and change the directory to where Arcserve is installed
* Run CSTOP
* Make sure caloggerd.exe is not running on the processes
* Rename the log folder under the Brightstor folder, i.e log_old
* Run CSTART
* Open Arcserve manager and you should see a couple of entries in the Activity Log now.
NOTE! The previous logs will be lost.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Hi GSC,

As always thank you sincerely for your prompt reply. I tried to do this but it would not allow me to rename the folder, as it is says it is in use.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks again,

learn2tech

Reboot the server and try again :)

Hi All,

I was able to recreate the log folder, but when i did this, the database became corrupt again and I cannot initialise asjob. I tried rebooting and reinitialising but this will not work.

Can somebody help me replace the v11.1 database with a new one or give me a tip on how to initialise?

Thanks,

Jane.

Jane,

Is the ARCserve system account set to the admin account on your SBS server ?

If so , ensure you re-enter the user name and pwd on the ARCserve server admin every time you change the admin password.

Also, ensure all BAB manager windows are closed before you initialize the database.
If you are not able to initialize from the Server Admin window, try using the admin.exe within the BAB install folder.

So it Shall be Written!
So it Shall be Done!!

I fixed the initialise problem with the help of your previous post.

However, still nothing appearing in job status or job log.

Have you got any ideas to what this could be? I've renamed the log folder twice already, but this didn't work.

Thanks,

learn2tech

HI,

Run a CSTOP
ensure caloggerd.exe is not running.. if so kill it..
rename the log folder.
Run CSTART

Hi speshalyst,

GSC already posted this solution earlier. Tried it three times but still no luck.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks a lot for you reply

go into the ARCserve Server Admin, Configuration (cog & wrench icon) Job Engine tab and set the message level.

Jane,
If you need a new blank database let me know where to email it too.
It's about 1 MB in size when compressed.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Thanks all for your replies,

I still cannot see anything in job status. I checked server admin and the activity log is set to display all kinds of errors, but there is nothing appearing.

The databases are appearing fine now and are not crashing when i click on the link for them anymore, so I presume its not this.

Can anybody shed some light?

Thanks,

l2t

Please define "I still cannot see anything in job status."

does that mean that the Job Status window is totally blank?
