Help again!

Before I was asking how to tell whether or not my sound card is installed or selected, and now I'm starting to believe that it went bad. So is there away to tell whether or not it's good or bad, and if it is good please in laymen terms tell me how to figure out what you have asked me about my system and where to go from there!

start, settings, control panel, sounds, hilight one and press the test button.
If nothing there, then control panel , system , device manager, sound card, look for yellow or red marks. If none , click properties, see if it thinks the card is working. Ed Fair

Well I gave it a try. When I tested the sound nothing worked so I followed your next step, and there was nothing on that tree that even symbolized a sound card other than the Multimedia Player with a plus sign next to it so I clicked on that and Monster Diamond Sound scrolled down under the Multimedia, and nothing else; no plus sign no nothing. There was also the game controller and sounds and (?)keyboard on that tree so I clicked on that plus sign and there was only things under it for the controlers and the (?)keyboards. Sorry for the hassel, now I'm gonna try to find the info you have asked for but it might take me a while to find everything that you need. I'll let you know one thing for sure once I have someone walk me through it the first time, I got it down. So thanks if you stick with me and help! So here's the first bit of info I have for you---
When I click on systems on the control panel I get a page that displys the following---
Four tabs below the title of the page which is system properties. The first tab says GENERAL---

Try highlighting the card in the device manager and removing it. Restart your computer and reinstall the drivers. Once that is done, go to the sounds section in the control panel and pay attention to if the little play button is grayed out or not. If it is black and you are able to click it, then make sure your speakers are plugged in the correct output hole on the sound card. If no sound comes out after you have tried all of the holes, go to the device manager and double click on the word computer. Look at the interupt requests, and see if there is any other devices on the same irq as your sound card. Just because a conflict isn't appearing in the device manager, doesn't mean that there isn't a resource conflict. If no other devices are on the same IRQ, then chances are your card is bad.

Where do the speakers plug in. Level with the keyboard or mouse, or in one of a set of sockets in an opening about 1/2 x 3". Attempting to find out whether you have a sound chip built onto the M/B or have an expansion card.
If it is built in, you probably will need to load drivers from a CD that came with the M/B. If an expansion card, the drivers should have come on a CD packaged with the card.
PCSUperstore suggested removing the card and letting it reinstall itself. In device manager, sound/multimedia, single click on the diamond, click on remove tab. Exit out, reboot the system and see if it finds the card as it comes up.
If it finds it, and installs it right you should see your speaker on the task bar. Will watch for post Wednesday. Ed Fair
