We have a MICS 5.0 Norstar System with a 6 port fibre expansion module and a T-1 PRI card. We also have a 16 port station module plugged into the bottom slot of the fibre expansion module and a NAM Voice Mail module plugged into the 5th slot from the bottom along with an Analog Station Module plugged into the 4th Slot from the bottom.

I just purchased an additonal Fibre Station Module to add 16 additional sets. I read thru the forums and it basically said shutdown KSU then plug it in starting from the bottom up on the fibre card. I tried plugging into the 2nd slot from the bottom and that didn't seem to work. It didn't recognize the hardware at all. I then tried the 3rd slot, then the last slot 6.

My basic steps were:
Shut down the KSU. Plug the 25 Pait cable into the station module then into the blocks. Then Plug the INTL Staion Module's fibre cable into one of the open ports. Then I turn on the KSU. Wait about 5-10 minutes for the system to come back online. Login to **Config Goto Maintence..Module Status..Check to see if KSU recognizes the unit it just says empty. I also check Hardware section to make sure module is set to StnMod. Lastly I check Maintenance...Link Status...It shows up as OtherMod.

I bought the hardware from a reseller and it says INT'L fibre station module. Are there any known incompatibilies with this module? Am I doing something wrong? The status light on the new module is green while the status light on the old module is red. Does this have anything to do with it?

Do I need to punch down any of the new sets to get the system recognized?

I have run out of ideas to fix this issue. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

do u see light at both ends? is the fiber good
the green/red light doesnt matter

or else do as ARR says ...get the vendor to comeout and have a look

Actually I just found the answer myself.

I guess the only way the Module will announce itself to the KSU is if a set is punched down on it. I punched down a single T7316E set on Port 401 and the system came alive. It's definetly not the way I would have designed it.

Well it works and I didn't have to pay to have a tech look at it.

Our local phone company wanted to charge $1500 to resell the unit and install it. I bought it for $399 from an online store and installed it myself.
