heartbeat in HACMP environments

In my opinion,the heartbeat line(from serial port or 8,16 port Async adapter) performs communicate. The standby adapter is only used when the the service adapter is cut,then the standby adpter will take over the service IP address.

I understood your answer. but i'm sorry that don't agree your opinion.
If occured problem at serial port, don't happen take-over
so, I think,
in hacmp, is it take to heartbeat between adapter to adapter ?
