Running a dual-booting system which, til yesterday, has been fine. Had been writing a dvd n left it over night and expected the system to be running fine in the morning!!

It wasnt..

I have an 80gb and a 120gb drive. The system previously had the 80gb in the the boot priority list behind my floppy n dvd drives.

Now it wont boot from the 80gb drive. Changing the to 120gb in the boot priority list it will allow me to boot from either drive..

Yep it works.. but it isnt as it was before.. upon checking the Device Manager for disk drives it reads 'disk drive' (my 80gb) and 'WDC WD1200JD-xxxxx' (120gb)

Both drives are Western Digital, does anyone have any ideas as to how i can get my drives reading as 'WDC WDxxxxxxxx'

Many thanks

Rob

ReggiePee;

First off, backup or ghost image your 80G HD ASAP, just in case.

Secondly, do you have SMART enabled in your BIOS and if so, does it report any pending problems with your HD? Note that not all motherboards have this capability.

Third, download WD's disk diagnostic application from their website and see what if thinks about the condition of your drive.

Please remember to do a backup first, as your drive may be on the verge of dying.

Report back what you find.
