HD failure...suggestions

Okay. My backup drive, a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 60GB ATA/133, just doesn't show up in Windows 2000 anymore. I pulled it out and can hear it spin up when powered, but can't get the comp to see it. It was the slave on the primary buss.

Ho Hum... There are a few things I need off this drive. Any suggestions of next steps?

i should note the bios does recognize the drive

Something really odd....

using GetDataBack, the failed drive shows up as (secure file system)Peter Gutmann)

Virus encrypted my HD? Anyone know?

Somewhere i have read that there is a firmeware issue and that the drive is on its last legs when this fails.

if all fails they apparantly deal with this type of thing as they know all about fujitsu drives with similar problems
