I am running Outlook connected to an exchange server. Any idea why Outlook will not notify me of new email unless I click on an existing email message? I would think it would know to refresh and notify me of new email on its own?

Go to the Mail Account Options, and check how often Outlook is scheduled to check for new messages.

Open Outlook. Click Tools then Options. Click on the Mail Delivery Tab. Under, "Mail Account Options", is a, "Check for new messages every __ minutes", check box. Be sure this box is checked and change the minutes to your desired time increment.

Are you using Internet Mail (POP) or Exchange services (MAPI) to connect to the Exchange server. MAPI should be almost instantaneous the second the mail hits the Exchange server. If you're using POP, then it defaults to checking the server every 6-10 minutes (can't remember exactly).

Basic troubleshooting, does it happen to
all users?
all mailboxes?
different workstations?
