Has anyone been able to install to or boot AIX from a external USB drive?

Thanks!

I once tried a usb memory stick in an AIX53 system - came up as a usb cdrom drive in AIX - and it didn't even work as a RO cdrfs...

I don't believe there's support yet for the stuff you want to do.

I've been trying for ages to do the same thing, but as yet I haven't found a solution. Can do it on solaris no problem.......

We needed to get a huge file from an AIX system to an external USB drive. I called IBM and they told me the USB port on this Power5 520 can only be used for a (get this) mouse and/or a keyboard!!

What a waste of a USB port.

I don't see why this can't be supported the J20 blade servers use an internal USB CD-Rom (Very slow).

USB cdrom device should also be supported. But that doesn't help you...

After a bit of googling it appears it may be supported in 5.3 with the following fileset installed

devices.usbif.080550
