Hi,

Does anyone have any experiance of upgrading/replacing a Windows 2K DC. We want to replace the server with a new box, but retain the old name.

We have a couple of DC's in the domain to take control of AD but is there anything (other than moving the Global Catalog etc.) that we should be looking out for.

We are thinking that we should demote the DC first, delete its account and then connect the new machine and promote it.

Any thoughts from anyone?

Your help as always is greatly appreciated.

You can move the GC and FSMO roles manually, that should be enough. Then remove it from domain membership. It is alleged, that a clean demotion of a DC to member server will do the former things for you, but why take a chance?

Many thanks, I was planning to move the roles manually. Just wondered if there was anything else I should worry about.
